I just wish I had been old enough to have seen Keith drumming live. Unfortunately when Keith Moon died in 1978 I was only 15 years old & I don't think Who was anywhere near I was living (& was born) in the Tampa Bay area in Florida in about the previous five years. But I just have this feeling if I had been able to see Keith drumming before he died I would have gone into trying to imitiate him in doing drumming myself. Maybe when I get to heaven (years from now), Keith can give me lessons?

You're right paddy. PT was heavily R&B influenced, with a liberal spritzing of surf, as well as a bit of the cabaret. I read once that PT felt his original ideas we're just pushed harder, faster and louder because of the way Keith and John played. That's not to discount that The Who was probably the Genesis of a burgeoning "angst" movement in Rock. You could probably make that arguement for the Stones as well. PT "knicked" that windmill from the little overhand swing that Keith Richards does

I just saw a VH1 special on the Who. You cannot appreciate their ability until you see them live. They played as one well oiled unit. Keith and Pete would look at each other and play like demons while John would lay down harmonic bass lines like a symphony with Roger telling the story. POWERFUL!!!!!

the first time I saw The Who at The Boston Teaparty in 1969 I was sitting right in front and Keith's snare drum somehow came off the stand between songs and literally rolled into my lap. Pete Townsend looked at me, like are you going to give it back to him, and I handed the snare back to Keith. To this day I wish I'd said somehting to him. Great show!
