HUH? Very FEW tomatoes are genetically modified right now! MOST are "hybrids" which is NOT a genetic modification! However, about 90% of SOY is genetically modified and nearly as much feed corn is also - so if you are eating grain-fed beef ... good luck to your intestinal microbia.

Not necessarily: Hybrid means they have crossbred 2 kinds of tomatoes. The 2 kinds could have been natural or genetically modified. The chance that at least one of the kinds was modified is quite high though, since most of the tomatoes are genetically modified nowadays. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. GM food is often healthier than natural food.

At this point, I don't think it's logical to really argue for or against genetic engineering because we don't have substantial LONG-TERM studies. And whether or not it caused health problems in the case of L-tryptophan does not necessarily mean it's harmful in ALL cases. We really need to conduct some long-term studies before we put too much effort into arguing for or against it.

Yes it is because organic requires more land and this mean more forests need to get cut down. Organic requires more land because , for example, you need land to grow the pasture, to grow the cows that make the manure that is used to fertilise organic crops. organic crops yield less so you need more land to produce the same amount of food.

Antibiotic resistance genes in plants are only a hazard if the gene is for resistance to an antibiotic in medical use. There are many discontinued anti-biotics that doctors do not use becasue the resistance genes are widespread. These are the same genes as used in GM plants. eg It is not a risk to have kanamycin restance genes in your food because your gut is already full of kanamycin resistant bacteria.

If anyone takes one genetics class, (depending on where it is taking), you will learn that it is in fact a good thing! The corn crop has been modified years and years to give it a rugged form to withstand drought and obtain a higher yield of kernels. Any seedless grape/tomato/banana... has been hybridized in order to malfunction during cell division and not produce seeds! Strawberry's are now giant (not as sweet) but you still buy them... Artificial selection and crossing is GM that works very well without labs and test tubes. Do you really think that pink pigs and dogs are natural animals? They were created by humans through domestication which is just GM. Knowing about something and doing it are two different things. What is your point? Why do the Sumerans have to know what DNA is in order to manipulate the genes of their crops and cattle? That is weired logic.
