Yes Hank Marvin was also an innovator of delay. I just listed a few and not a whole collection, but you are right. What cracks me up are these teenage and 20's musicians that think Coldplay and Radiohead and such bands innovated that guitar sound. My teenage nephew told me that U2 sounded like Coldplay. Delay is an effect that tends to make the electric guitar sound like an an echo. Innovated and made mainstream by such guitar players such as Gilmour from Floyd and later The Edge from U2. It's too bad that ppl such as the guy that made that comment say that delay or other effects somehow take away from talent. Many great guitar players use effects. Look at Hendrix!

Agreed, but you gotta admit that he started acting like a complete douche towards the end of his time with Floyd. And it can't be understated that The Final Cut (generally accepted to be a Waters' solo album) was one of the worst selling Floyd albums.

Waters took a consistent band, started making music for himself and his strange Father issues, kicked out Richard Wright (RIP) then made an album so inaccessible that no one tends to remember it as Floyd album (the final cut). At least Gilmour brought it back to the masses, yes AMLOR was shit but the Division Bell is great and i'm so glad they did the PULSE tour. What a spectacle.

McCartney? Puhleeeze. Dylan is horrifically overrated, and his voice sucks. Young is overrated as well. Lennon maybe, but he didn't get as over-the-top with his politics like Roger (which I love). The only other lyricist I'd put anywhere near close to Waters is Peter Gabriel.

Though he may not have been the best. Waters was certainly perfect for the Floyd. I agree 110% that without Roger Pink Floyd would have died with Barret. But it's Davids unique sound that gave them lasting appeal to the younger generations. Its the fist thing you notice when you hear a floyd song for the first time and the thing that sticks with most people.

I understand where your coming from. Roger is one of my idols, but Waters is NOWHERE near the greatest lyricist of all time. Matter of fact id say David is a better guitarist then Roger is a lyricist. IMO Roger is not close to the writing prowess of Dylan or Lennon or Young or McCartney or or or or i could keep on going forever. David on the other hand I would put of there with ANY guitarist on the planet.

I fully agree without that guitar something is missing. Don't get me wrong it's a great song of a great man but the bell is not the same, song lost it's claws and when I clos my eyes I don't see any empty spaces. I'm not flowing. This is very important song for me. Not only from my childhood and yooth, but now as well. I listen to it in hard moments. I think that Gimour's DVD from Gda?sk in Poland is great, but I prefer PF version and I think it was better

Time to take it down a few notches. Just think of the size of Gilmours balls, to even think of trying to pull this one off. This is the same man who will do Bizet, then turn around and do a song from "Chity-Chity-Bang-Bang". Why? Because Gilmour can recognize a good song when he sees one, and will perform them all with an understated elegance that seems to be the hallmark of the Worlds greatest artists.

It took his death for me to realize what an immense influence Richard had on the sound of Pink Floyd. After I got news of his death, I played the 'dark side' album again and again and just sat awe struck at the binding chord of his key board! I must have heard that album a thousand times in my life but never realized that without Richard's unobtrusive bonding keyboard that album would not have been the one we so love! He is a genius who did not bother about press conference! What a man! RIP!

Honestly, I only found out about Rick's death a few days ago, but it didn't make the impact of the news any less. To me, Rick Wright was the central sound of Pink Floyd. His style was dark yet elegant, and his chord progressions were pioneering. He was one of my biggest influences in music and I feel it is a great loss. I know he's jamming with Syd in that great gig in the sky.

yep thats right, gilmour recorded half of AMLOR by himself, using elegtronic drums, synths, etc. The entirety of "Sorrow" by himself, as well as the new machines, and i believe he did on the turning away and not another movie as well by himself.

I have loved Pink Floyd since I was a teenager back in the 70s - how did I not know until today just how gorgeous this man is/was? I was watching the Echoes at Pompeii Live and was thinking "Oh, there's a woman with them?" Then, "Oh, that's a guy!" David Gilmour is a Master of Sound! Even though he doesn't have any special guitar or vocal skills, he have an amazing composing talent and a feeling for music. He makes his music full of power and beauty without shredding 300 b.p.m. Solo in the center of Echoes kicks ass. And he wasn't to Pink Floyd what Slash was to Guns'n'Roses. This is completly different league. I don't mean Slash is worse than Dave, just we can't compare them and their contribution to bands where they were playing...
