Goddamn, Egberto, no words to describe the music. One of my biggest influences, along with Ralph Towner, John Abercrombie, NAna Vasconcelos, Colin Walcott, Eberhard Weber, Peter Erskine and Jack DeJohnette. Egberto has such a tremendous sense of rhythm, untouchable. A genius in his own right. Infancia was a great album indeed.

This version of "Maracatu" is, however, not nearly as good as the original recording on the "Sanfona" album. I have the feeling that Gismonti�s well-known overly presumptious personality gets in the way of his art--for example, in this recording, where he overdoes the original "Maracatu" theme with an array of decorative elements which, in my view and much to the listener's dismay, dilute and pollute the marvelous inspirational quality which he captured in his "Maracatu" recording for "Sanfona".

This music is beautiful, and it is really a maracatu!!! Try to focus on the rhythm and you�ll realise that is a maracatu!! Do you know the basic rhythm cell of it??? Think in a 4/4 compass the attack is on the head of the first beat and the rest is on the second sixteenth of the thrid and fourth beats!! Yes, I love this kind of jazz and I know it should be beautiful...and in general it is... but somehow I cannot convince myself that Garbarek's solos are not actually boring... The Gismonti-Haden concert in Montreal is my absolutely favourite and beloved CD, but listening to the trio's recordings (the same applies to his CDs with Bobo Stenson trio) I can't escape the feeling that Garbarek with his constantly weeping saxophone is just redundant... Sorry for that, but this is just my feeling :-(

Concordo contigo. Sinto EXATAMENTE o mesmo!! Muitas m�sicas do Egberto produzem esse efeito no corpo e na alma... Apesar de que ele tamb�m tem m�sicas que produzem uma "nao-sei-por-que-saudade" e trizteza infinitas, como a "Palhaco". Gorgeous music by Gismonti (composer, arranger, piano player, vocals). Genius. And what a gifted guitar player as well... Mind boggling musicianship. It just ocurred to me to check Wikipedia: "After studying classical music for 15 years, he went to Paris to study with orchestration and analysis with Nadia Boulanger and composer Jean Barraqu�, a disciple of Schoenberg and Webern(...)"

I discovered this wonderful tune of Egberto Gismonti about 10 days ago on this website.
This own version is based on the different versions i found on youtube: I don't know the original from E. Gismonti!
Recorded the 5th of september on a EG522 guitar "old nylon Luthier strings = installed about one year ago!"
