typically engines this size do not produce anything more than about 50kg of static thrust. so broken legs are not the issue to be concerned with. i would say the average engine speed of 70,000rpm could be a problem if there where ever a failure. that thing would go off like a grenade! quality standards on small turbines is usually very high because of this :P

That'a a very long final. 1:20 at maybe 50 knots is about a mile and a quarter. I am more used to something like a half a mile, but it depends on the wind conditions, the obstacles, my estimated altitude in the turn from base leg, other traffic, etc.

Smooth landing...but there's a problem: You're landing at an uncontrolled airport with fixed wing a/c and aparently, you never said a peep on the CTAF. Don't keep it a secret...let everyone know what your plans are so we can all get out your way. At 1:51 you crossed another runway. What was your plan if a Learjet was doing a straight-in approach on your runway or the crossing r/w ? He might be right behind you and above where neither of you can see each other.

In the frozen case, could be. If it's the linkage that fails, the spoiler would be free and sucked into the wing's lift. That happened to a friend of mine who forgot to connect the spoiler... Thank god, I'm flying an ASW-24 with automatic connections, so that's not a problem to me.

IMHO this is a completely useless training. If the spoilers were to fail, the would fail the other way around, being sucked into the airflow and staying extended. I just don't see how could they fail to extend. I know a number of people who suffered involuntary extension of airbrakes, but none, none absolutely who could not deploy them.

We teach spoiler failure landings at Dillingham Airfield in Hawaii. 9000' paved with approx. 45 degree steady tradewinds. It just blows our students' minds when they see how much of the runway they use up in ground effect. The glider just does not want to land. Thanks for this....

Wow now this throws up a whole heap of issues...even if you were low you should have been in the high key area of your circuit at a sensible-ish height, and if the wind had changed direction that would have actually left you at low key with plenty of height. I think this is a valuable lesson in why you should keep an eye on the windsock whenever you're nearing circuit height, thus being able to change the landing direction if required. Your instructor certainly should have spotted it...

Much of the pattern was flown in a slip, using the slip for glide-slope control instead of spoilers. Just before touching down, you can see I'm doing a combination of crabbing and slipping as I'm trying to get the plane on the ground and manage the cross wind.

Well, you can see that I'm going in and out of the slip as the wing goes down and up. I was a student, and very tentative as I was trying to make my way to the ground without spoilers. But with 6,000 feet of runway, I could afford to be tentative. :-) FWIW: I used the whole 6,000 feet! (This really makes me appreciate the need to test your spoilers while on downwind).

I was on instruction in a Twin Astir and trying to thermal with only limited success. The instructor eventually said, "I'm sorry, but we've got to go in now." I was running out of height and ended up making my final turn (below 300ft is forbidden at our club) well into the field. The wind had changed since the start of operation so it was a downwind landing. The instructor took control and sideslipped it the length of the field. The Deputy CFI's comment was a terse, "That looked exciting."

Funny thing is that I'm actually more scared flying our motor glider, which has a glide ratio of just under 30:1 - three times that of a Cessna 172. Feels like I drop like a rock when I pull back the throttle :).

really cool flying - those power guys don't know what they're missing, the sounds of a sailplane during the aerobatics are impressive (and i doubt that there is any good looking female pilot amongst the people who need a propeller for flying). and even without the sound it would be great, she doesn't let anyone doubt about her skills.

About 95 percent of the good Sugar Glider websites on the internet will tell you it is best to have at the least two. They do not do well as single animals. Unless you can spend more time with them then they do in their cage I would suggest at the least having two. Please use GOOGLE search for SUGAR GLIDER and learn all you can about them FIRST!!!. They are not the pet for everyone and definitely not the pet for people too lazy to research or people who IMPULSE BUY ANIMALS.

Sugar Gliders are very social animals and can live in colonies of up to 40 Sugar Gliders. Want to know why mine are so friendly? I wish all Sugar Glider folks could say the same. But it is sad that there are lots of them out here that spend more time locked up then with their human. Sugar Gliders are extremely social animals and they need and crave lots of attention / socialization. I take mine with me every where I go. Not many people can or are able to do that. You are entitled to your opinion. I think you should learn all the facts first though. Then you can form a much better opinion.

Lifespan 5 to 7 years in the rain forest. Lifespan 10 to 15 years (if cared for properly) in captivity. How long would you want to live? The point of this video was to show the bond that I have with mine. He could have run up a tree and he didn't he could have run away from me and he chased me. He could have climbed up the side of the house and again, he didn't. Think what you like but mine was born here in South Carolina and not some Rain Forest. He is on me more then in his cage.

It seems almost a bit savage, they crave height, and being low to the ground seems to mess with their balance. I could be wrong, but they need the rain forest canopy, not cages. They might make wonderful pets, but I don't think it's healthy for them to be low to the ground. -The missus.

Personally I think you are not ready for O N E because if you do any kind of research about them then you will learn you should never have just O N E unless you have 16 hours a day you can spend with O N E so it doesn't become depressed quit eating and die on Y O U because you only chose to have just O N E. Nocturnal exotic animals are not for KIDS at all because most KIDS loose interest in them and the animal ends up suffering because of it. plus most kids are not Nocturnal stick with rodents.

Electric FLPHGs are something I have been interested in for a couple of years. If you look around the net you can find some very light 10 kW motors (a few pounds) and only a couple of hundred bucks. The real issue is batteries which are about 2 lb per minute of flight (very roughly from memory). I think they were about $400 / lb. I'm sure in 5 - 10 years they will replace gasoline systems.

Yeh, that's aerotowing- using an ultralight aircraft to tow hanggliders into the air, I have a video of me learning that launch method in Spain. Running outta gas doesn't 'slow you down' it means you cannot climb (ascend) or maintain your height without finding natural lift (thermals or wind deflected upward from a windward cliff or steep hill).

ok search this video on youtube, hang gliding Big Spring 2006 hi could you stay in the air all day with this push cart method,if you were good enough at swooping with your HG,... and it seems like this method could surpass the mosquito method,cause by the time you ran outta gas it would slow you down,and you would still be aerodynamic with the push cart method,and you wouldnt have to jump off a cliff to get going,

Its quite different than a paramotor...It�s more a trike without wheels. Ridgid frame up to the ingenious false keel that distrubutes the load and torque on two parts of the real keel making it possible to use the unit without reinforcing the keel? On the ground the wing is supported on the shoulders like the unit giving a much better control of pitch on the ground and making it more confortable than a free flight configuration. Maybe it helps in landing too, add a dolly to the unit and a trike

I googled Altigenerator and came accross the website by serge bessault. I emailed him to see if he is still in buisness and got a response from serge. Looks like he is still developing the Altigenerator and plans are available unless its a con.... I love this idea tho.
