U were wondering y ppl take him seriously, and I just gave u the reasons. U said he doesn't debate ppl that challenge his views, and I just pointed out that he has. WHEN the debates took place is irrelevant, and so is whether you've heard of these people or not. U said he doesn't debate ppl that challenge his views period. Btw... These are famous ppl.I'm Canadian and I've heard of Dershowitz.He is the Felix Frankfurter Professor of Law at Harvard Law School and the debate with him is very recent

Umm no. Type in Perle Chomsky, or Dershowtize Chomsky, just to start off. by the way... The most quoted thing is not simply off Wikipedia. It was an actual research done. He is the most quoted person in the Humanities that is living today I dunno what kinda colleges there are where you're from, but it's pretty hard to escape Chomsky's name. His influence is known in Psychology (as almost single-handedly halting the behaviourist revolution), poli-sci, philosophy, linguist.

Thanks for the biology lesson, but nobody said that we aren't all humans. Secondly your getting your terms mixed up. There is a difference between "race" and "species". And you also took one particular type of distinction to prove your point. Races evolved with different physical attributes for various reasons. Would say that making distinctions between types of dogs is fallacious? Making distinctions between races is natural, the problem starts when people define a race by these distinctions...

Completely wrong. Skin color, the most common distinction between the 'races' is solely due to the concentration of melanin. Melanin protects against UV light, and for the most part, the average skin color has been tied down to the levels of ultra violet radiation. So you're completely wrong. The problem is systems and ideologies. Not people. If you think in terms of good and evil people, than you still have a slave mentality. Everyone has morals to an extent. Chomsky is a bit off in terms of what the problem is. Globalization comes from regulation. As the Federal Reserve's power, and the Governments power increases, while they subsidize corporations(which is NOT economic freedom)through multiple different ways (foreign and domestic) inflation goes through the roof. No, we are falling apart because China is sucking $200 billion a year out of us through trade deficits and currency manipulation that keeps their products cheaper in our markets. Go look at the regulation in Japan - it's very heavy and you can eat off a factory floor in Japan it's so clean. Japan is heavily regulated and protectionist and they've got $14 tril. i the bank. The reason we are falling apart is because we are still trying to control the economy with restrictions instead of letting it do its job. International companies would not build a factory in the US because they would have to meet too many ridiculous standards and quotas. Small businesses are snuffed out for the same reason. The local governments are the ones who make deals with the companies. As far as arms sales, well like any other segment of economics wherever there is a demand there will b a supply. Arms merchants will sell 2 whoever buys their product just like drug dealers deal to those who want drugs. If 1 is incapable of extractin n exploitin resources n makin them in2 finish goods then some1 else will come along n fill that niche as well. Interesting video. Where does the money come from for the arms? If the funds dried up, so would the arms. If the focus was placed on the decision makers to get them to spend the money on micro loans, on infrastructure and change the game into creating thriving economies. Never said this was stupid, and I dont need to gather information to tell me something thats learned from experience. I have almost the exact same curriculum other undergrads had 10 or 20yrs before me. Besides, we dont know exactly what the "technical information" is. It could include books, etc that are just being digitized, or new pron sites even. Just because something is added to the internet doesnt make it technical information.

Technically what students learn isnt outdated by their 3rd year. They (we) really are getting a grasp of the basic ideals, theories, techniques, etc within the discipline of study. It's not until the final year, graduate school even, that the knowledge we gain begins to become outdated. However, if you haven't read it, a book published in the late 70s, "None Dare Call It Conspiracy", by Gary Allen, will tell you exactly when all this Shift started that is now affecting our lives now. However, don't confuse technology with skill. In some cases, technology is akin to skill (i.e. medical training), but not all the time.

If you think what China lacks is technology, you are sorely mistaken. Though China is backward in terms of intellectual science, applicable science is quite modern. They have technology implemented for everyday life in which I feel G8 countries are more backward than China. Sweatshops happen because of the need to create capital. It's true I haven't read his book. But to claim that its just an unfortunate inevitability that people have to suffer sweatshops before they magically become middle class consumers is ridiculous. 100 years ago when the countries that are now sources of cheap labor were being exploited by colonizers, they were told (by the colonizers and local cronies, of course) that their suffering would result in a better tommorrow. That's a horrible, callous view on sweatshops. Your argument is lacking in good economics; the Chinese are just as good labourers as the Japanese. What China lacks is technology, not skilled labour. Infrastructure is best provided by governments, not private enterprise. Sweatshops are a necessary evil, but NOT for the reasons you describe.

If you claim Sachs has an unapologetic view of capitalism, then you haven't read his books. Read "Common Wealth" or "The End of Poverty." Sweatshops are a necessary evil in the transition from sustenance economy to commercial economy. All poor nations can offer is cheap labour, at the beginning. Every developed nation has had some form of sweatshop labour; think of Britain, Canada, or even the United States. For many poor, it's better to have work than be unemployed.

The problem with your view is that it'll make people feel content with what they already have. What motivation will these workers have to improve themselves when the situation isn't good? Right now the infrastructure and the quality of the people in China isn't ready. They have alot to learn when compared to developed states such as Japan. It takes time, and it'll take not just one generation but at least two. My mother worked at a sweatshop and so did her sisters.
