Yeah, when Duvall was on Inside the Actor's Studio, he told James Lipton the one thing he disliked about his role in the Godfather series was the hairpiece he had to wear! However, it was also fiancial disputes that resulted in Hagen dying before the story of Godfather Part III took place. Sure, Sonny has a mere cameo in this film, but he's important for introducing his eventual betrayer, Carlo, to Connie and the family, which results in the abusive marriage, the big fight, and his death...

I have to agree with only ONE part. The best part of Part II was Robert Di Niro playing Vito as a young man. They should have made that into a movie by itself it was so good! But I did not like the modern parts of Micheal and him killing his brother, Hyman Roth getting killed, all of that was too much like real life...which probably they were masking the truth through those scenes...but they could have made some of those scenes more cinematic than a documentary. Other than that, love it! =D

The godfather was a brillant film i didnt think the second would be any good compare to the first but in this film the second one is way better than the first robert di niro one of my favorite actors ever is brillant as the young vito corleone and al pacino is way better in this film then he was in the first but the only disappointed in this film is Robert Duvall as tom haggen he is not as good as he was in the first and james caan is missed

People love The Godfather because it's a great movie - period. Goodfellas is also a great movie - should've won Best Picture in 1990, but it's the antithesis of The Godfather. Before anything else, The Godfather is about family, and doing what's best for them; because of that, it connects to people on an emotional level, that Goodfellas can't. Goodfellas is pretty much about looking out for #1. Of course by the end of The Godfather, Michael has moved away from the importance of family.

But he sure is arrogant and loud mouth in this clip. Even more so than Cann. And did you get to read the book before watching the movie? Of course if you've watched the movie a zillion times, it's hard to picture anybody but Cann in the role. But ask any New Yorker, anybody familiar with real wiseguys, and they will tell you that DeNiro would've been more realistic.

As far as Goodfellas vs Godfather The Godfather is in a league of its own. Only Sergio Leones Once upon a time in america can come close as far as epic gangster films go. Goodfellas is a great film but it lacks the emotional/character depth of the Godfather and OUATIA.Goodfellas is much more stylized and racy, initially more entertaining I guess but overall it doesn't quite match the greatness of Godfather and OUATIA which are BIG epic stories. Of course this is just my opinion though!

I disagree DeNiro in Goodfellas is still a fairly restrained character. Sure he has a vicious streak but he isnt as arrogant and loud mouthed as Pesci who character wise has more in common with Sonny. Physical looks are important in The Godfather when it comes to casting since Puzos novel frequently refers to Sonnys size and build. Sure DeNiro has the acting ability to fit any role but in my opinion after reading the novel I wouldn't ask for anyone other than Caan.

Words cannot describe the magnificence of these films. And to withvengancewashere, I think he was right to leave out part III. This video tells the story of The Godfather, Vito Andolini Corleone, and his son Michael. The third film tells nothing of Vito, and is merely a mediocre continuation of Michael Corleone's life. I think this deserves a higher score for leaving out the 3rd film.
