Upon learning of Jerry Hadley's death, I went out and bought a copy of Moart's "Requiem" in which he sang the tenor solo in memory of him.� He was one of the singers in the 1990's� that I absolutely fell in love with - others being Dawn Upshaw, Carol Vaness, Cheryl Studer, Thomas Hampson and others of that caliber who really blossomed for me.Jerry was the greatest American tenor of recent years.� Rest in peace, Jerry.� along Opera Buff 1935

I agree with you, my friend - I had never heard him until yesterday - and, when rehearsing about him I found he is no more. I sing opera and I know many depressive friends - It may take all of a sudden sensible people like artists in general. It is a medical issue and must be detected and treated - I hope he's found his peace - and listening to this aria, I can understand the price of such a wonderful interpretation...

He is great as Idamante, gosh, he is so great. Idamante to fall in love with. gosh. Maybe those opera singers taking to seriously they job without any distance. I absolutely hate that he did not leave us a studio record of Alfredo, Edgardo, Romeo or Pinkerton, among others. Around this time DG gave us Traviata w/ Pavarotti giving an OK Alfredo opposite--YAWN--Cheryl Studer. Not knocking Pav, I loved him in his prime, but look at the Hadley's polish, musicianship and beautiful tone, and you have to ask: What is WRONG with the record companies? OK--done with my rant. Hadley reached his vocal height and success under the care of Tom LoMonaco. He voice in the1980's and early 90' was incredible. He was completely undeveloped in the 1970's, just coming out of college.

They are all wonderful singers.Most of us just dream of singing like this. And Jerry was such a great singer live. I saw him live in concert about 5 times and all were divine. If I'd lived in NYC, I'd have spent an awful lot of $ going to see his operas. God bless him and God bless all pro singers. Not at all an easy life. I saw him in concert in Dallas and it was great. I loved hearing this man sing. I hate that life became hard for him I think we think famous people are imune to criticism and other things and they are not. That is why I would to see all of us on YouTube who listen to these singers to think about what we write. They are human just like the rest of us. That's really sad. From everything I have read, I guess he was having vocal problems and some of the reviews he got in his later years were quite unkind. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe one reviewer called him "stout and unglamorous" when he sang the role of Gatsby. Perhaps those issues were weighing on his mind.

He shot himself in the head with an air rifle about a month ago and died two weeks later, after they disconected the life support machines. My father worked with him in Amsterdam a couple ofyears ago and i reeber him being quite trange alrady back then. Shame he had a nice voice when he was young.

This is one of the most powerful songs I've ever had the privilege of singing. I've sung it in choir before (and frequently teared up). Now we're doing Candide as our opera for this year, and we had our first full rehearsal with orchestra yesterday. I can't even describe to you how amazing it is to sing this number... so beautiful.

Can someone please post the aria Candide sings just before the finale...Nothing More Than This...Jerry is amazing...it is heartbreaking and just soars...the trumpet line at the end!...and to think of Jerry, at that final moment, gun to head..."nothing more than this?"...No Jerry...there was so much more and your talent is sorely missed. I agree, it may depend upon instrument, but as a guitarist, I have had to learn how to make my hands transfer my emotions into the strings. I also have to know the musical theory behing what I'm doing in order to find the type of sound i wish to play. Yes, natural ability does play a part, but I thoroughly believe that technical ability is more important.

Thanks for putting this up, it was really informative. I am really glad you commented on how you do your pencils, scan and adjust in the computer, and then print out larger (in blue). I'll have to keep that in mind, both so the inked page will be cleaner and to save the penciled page.

I don't know if you've actually used the tool I suggested, but Copic Multiliners are very similar to Microns, except that they bleed less (and therefore the lines are slightly thinner), and the SP series has interchangeable parts.

Hello there, i wanted to ask you an opinion, since i suppose you know "something ;) about inking. Ive been using different types of pens for years and my favourite pen is The Pigma Micron from Sakura. the problem like you say in your video is that the tip gets old when the ink cartridge isnt even halfed, the pen becomes useless. I need a pen that works well with watercolour paper (so that the ink doesent spread) and that i can erase the lapis away. Maybe you can help me and suggest a product

I have no time for his charlatan music being disguised as classical. As for Streisand singing Make Our Garden Grow, for a pop singer, she made me experience an emotional catharsis with her artistry and interpretation. Streisand is great in her rendition. I am a huge streisand fan, and i agree that she sings this song very well...for a pop artist. She carries the last verse very well considering she is not backed by a loud full chorus. Josh Groban was a classically trained singer from Julliard. I've heard him sing legit and it's impressive. But Seth Riggs showed him how to popify his voice, since he was given the opportunity. He has a very operatic sound--just that no one's heard it.

fortunately for our ears, no self-respecting opera house in the world would ever invite those 2 to sing these roles - they don't have the vocal chops for anything but pop - but perhaps you can catch your dream team together with Andre Rieu, Michael Buble and Andrea Bocelli at the House of Mediocrity where they're all appearing in "Candide, the Musical!"

I'll agree with cgjcks here. Josh Groban has never sung opera before and probably never will. He doesn't have the voice for it, and he's already established in the "popera" genre. MedicalExaminer, just because a song is in Italian doesn't mean it's opera. That would be like saying every song in English is country! You should look up the origination of some of the songs in Josh's repertoire. None are from operas.

Just learning Hadley is deceased!!Apparently I missed his Obit!I first saw Jerry on TV on a live PBS special titled "Flicka and Friends"in April of 1990.He was 37 years old and his singing,along with Sam Ramey and Fredrica Von Stade,was marvellous!Glad I recorded it!!The Kern Showboat selections were very well sung and the arias they interspersed were riveting.The evening was conducted masterfully by Henry Lewis,Marilyn Horne's ex husband!Mr.Lewis has also passed on!Any one else see this?

He was one of the nicest people I ever knew, and every moment of every rehearsal was a joy to work with him.
