To say that a lot of people sound like jeff buckley is total bullshit. Dylan is Dylan. He has his own category. Jeff Buckley was a great and special singer well before he died. He kinda became a phenomen after his tragic death but he had his following (including me) before he passed away. His rendition of Hallelujah remains one of the most poignant, deep and original. I also had the chance to listen to Sheryl Crow singing it live just a week after Buckley's death at Montreux Festival. Amazing!

I think this is a good version of this song, but it isnt a great one. I was watching dylans version and I said he sounds like the hard working man. Buckley (ive always said this) kinda has a weenie-winy voice. This is a good version, but there are a lot of people who sound like buckley. No one sounds quite like dylan.

As much as I like Jeff Buckley's performance, I like this version purely for the fact it has power in it...Alex of X-Factor i cant stand her since she's another Leona Lewis but her version is good. Yes it is Buckley's song and yes it is good with the emotion but my PERSONAL opinion (meanin no-one needs to slate me) Wainwright's voice is stronger and that's possibly why I like this one better. Though Buckley's guitaring was verrry nice and the piano is beautifully played.

I think Buckley sings with more emotion too. Rufus has emotion too but it's more over the whole song and not stressed in certain key places. Buckley really pulls out the emotions on the certain parts of the song that I think require it to win the "emotion" contest. I'm not saying buckley sings the rest of the song emotionless either. I love the piano. And the guitar. What I've said was based on singing not instrument preference.

I agree also that Cohen is the best version, but I also like Cale, Wainwright and KD lang, but totally don't get Buckley's. I think that he rushes through to the song, does not actually pay attention to lyrics, but more to the melody, and when he yells "halleluja'. he actually scares me a little - it's quite a surprise. I think that his interpretation was more music driven rather than lyric driven and maybe that's why it appeals to younger crowd.

It's perfectly okay to express your response to music. I feel like it isn't always the sounds or tones that are being played or sung, but the ones that you hear in your spirit. I think in that regard, this song can lift you to heavenly places where angels sing or it can make you sad. Buckley was a talented musician, and his take on this song was tender; but his music doesn't take me there. Cohen's performance is the most soulful. This is probably the best arrangement with instruments (thus far).

This is a pleasant, understated version and at least it has five of the seven most commonly used verses. Leonard Cohen, allegedly, wrote dozens of verses. Alexandra Burke was only told to sing three verses, which short-changes the song a bit. It is, by the way, inferior to much of Cohen's best work, but he has sung this in several fantastic, raw performances, IMHO.

Hmm... This version is very nice, and I was very surprised at Espen Lind, didn't know he actually could put that much feeling into a song, but i think that Kurt Nilsen might have been hearing a little to much country music for my taste :S But I feel really bad about people saying they never want to hear another version of this song. There are some really good ones out there, and at least you have to hear the original to hear what was really meant with the song...

actually you'll find that although cohen wrote it, buckley released his version of the song first. Personally dont see the attraction to Langs version, just find it incredibly annoying. Ok I checked (actually I didn't cos i already know). Wainwright Cale made the first versions poular to the masses (Cohen wrote it obviously). Buckley then begged wainwright for the selected verses he used. Buckley became extremely tired of singing it so ironically the version everyone raves about was made under duress and was not the perfect little bubble every JB fan thinks. KD lang sings it with most passion, Crow sings it with least. JB's is tiresome but ok and Alexandra rocked !! Ha!
