I dont care if BB wins the Classic (although I do not see that happening at all!) He just has race enough to prove he truly is a great horse. I think BB will beat Curlin or at least be within 1/2 length IF they meet. Look at how BB destroyed his competition, PLUS was running great times. His shoe came half way off during the Belmont, plus he was pushed to the rail then smashed into 2 other horses while he was FORCED off the rail. You can look at the Belmont as the real BB or you can look at his other 5 races as the real BB. I just hope they meet. This BS of retiring horses at age 3 is getting sickening.

Curlin is not only a great horse. He is the best horse in the world and the best horse of our generation. He will solidify that when he wins the Breeders Cup again. As for Steve his trainer the fact that his earnings to date right now for the year are nearly 3 times his next rival Pletcher should put all of the nay sayers to rest. Scott Blasi and John Moynihan and all of the people behind the scene also deserve a lot of credit for Curlin's achievements.

Its a match for me, I'd be very surprised if another horse other than these two won the World Cup. Happy Boy doesn't seem right with Saeed, a lot of rumours saying he might not make it. Asiatic Boy is gone I think. His last performance was so poor for a horse as good as him. Mike's horses struggled on Super Thursday too. Curlin to win!

Culin worked well under Robby in a 6 furlong canter yesterday morning. Im glad they ran him here and not Round 3 of the Maktoum Challenge (sakhee) as it means he'll be a lot fresher come the rest of the season. He has only one danger in the World Cup - Jalil. The Godolphin horse has not stopped improving since switched to dirt and must surely go to the US to continue his career. He ran quicker than Curlin over C&D, but was extended to do so, while Robby hardly moves above......

Agreed. When a horse outclasses his competition by a wide margin he is capable of much more than if pitted against his peers. Allownace horses have broken track records when having it all their own way against inferior competition, and the same horses finished up the track in minor stakes races.

Curlin...good Lord, where to start with that amazing specimen. He sure has matured into a VERY big boy! He has a real shot at achieving similar things to The Bid as a four. I find it especially telling of his raw ability that he was just lightly reined and still came so close to the track record. Can't wait to see what he does for the rest of the year! I'm pumped. Ok I agree that Curlin should have won with that amount of ease but you cannot disregard the fact that he was a second off the track record with 132 lbs and literally NEVER being asked. Imagine if Robby asked "the big horse" for alil something. I am bias though because I have bet Curlin in every race, including his maiden victory at Gulfstream.

You are right, there will never be another Biscuit! Only geldings would ever even get a chance to compete beyond a 4 year old season. Funny Cide is probably the closest we have seen to this, and he falls mile short of the Biscuit in every way. Economics has sadly replaced the Bravado that used to rule horse racing. There is no question that Secretariat was a great Broodmare's sire; but this Santa Anita victory is about a horse who was over stretched for years, n here he is coming back at much older age and setting the track record..no modern stallion can do what Seabiscuit did at his older age; horse like him, Discovery known as the iron horse n Swaps, are long gone; the breeding system is killing them; let us just hope for a safe trips on the next legs of the TC n all other races; 134 derby was a tragic.

Yes I did read the book,but I knew about Tom Smith before that. He later was a leading trainer,he trained Jet Pilot, who won the 1947 Kentucky Derby. His talent was pure cowboy,and he learned thru a lifetime of association with the horse. I believe he was the ultimate trainer.

Seabiscuit had the attitude to fight for the win. But I believe Tom Smith deserves all the credit for getting it out of him. Without him I doubt Seabiscuit woud have ever been heard of. Sadly, there has been numerous nameless horses who were handled badly and never got the chance to shine. I'm not saying "Sunny Jim" mishandled him,he knew he could run,but he wouldn't run. He never unlocked that door,yet the old cowboy Tom Smith knew by just looking at Seabiscuit, that he was worth the effort.

My first TAS match. Captain Falcon with handicap raping 3 Team CPU lvl 9 at Hyrule Castle in the game Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 64. I recieve no damage during the fight.
NOTE: The CPU is really stupid, Link kills himself twice. They find really difficult to grab the bumper above the green building at the right of the stage. Take a look there between 00:40 and 00:56 lol.

Phar Lap wins the Agua Caliente Handicap- 1932

The great Phar Lap in his one and only international race winning the Agua Caliente Handicap ("Hundred Grander") in 1932. As history would have it he died tragically days after the race. Many track observers said that they had never seen a horse cover the 2 furlongs of the back straight that Phar Lap does in this race.

Yes. Niatross is a standardbred and also a racehorse. I must admit it is difficult to compare horses of different generations. All these horses are great. You must remember that many of these champions can trace back to being descendants of Eclipse.

You mean Niatross the standard bred? I have had this argument with many people. It's hard to argue against Eclipse. Of course he was a freak. But there really is no comparioson to Secretariat's Belmont win. they don't even run that quick now. If a one off performance counts he would rate the top. Phar Lap won 3 Group 1's in 8 days from 2m to 7f. Would be a pretty hard record to beat.

Trainers today would baulk if their horse was made to carry 62.5 kg! When you think of whom he was a descended from, its little wonder he was destined for greatness. Carbine carried 65.7 kg to win & set a track-record for the 1890 Melbourne Cup. This winning weight run over 2 miles had never been carried before or since. Along with the Hungarian filly Kincsems winning streak (54 wins from 54 races, she retired undefeated in 1881) this is one of the worlds longest held horse-racing records.

I agree with you bgardiner. Phar Laps racing prowess in WFA & handicap races was phenomenal (incomparable to todays standards). He carried more WFA than any other horse in the field he was up against. He won the 1931 Futurity Stakes (1 mile) carrying 65.4 kg. The only way this incredible force of nature could be beaten was to burden him with 68 kg (1931 Melbourne Cup). Phar Lap came 8th. A lesser horse would have broken down or not finished. He really was something else.

Phar Lap carried the equivalent of 62.5 kg's when he won the 1930... Scary weight for a two mile race. If you work out based on a length per kg per mile handicap system he gives the bottom weight 350 meters in that race.

Of course it is pointless comparing times between era's... I think youhave to look at domination. Phar won 32 of the last 35 races he contested. In 8 days he won the Cox Plate (1950m), the Melbourne Stakes (now the Mackinnon- 2000m), the Melb Cup (3200m) and the linlithgow Stakes. All 4 were either race or track records. Secretariat is called the best ever based on one freakish run (and a triple crown). Few could boast a record of dominance like that of Phar Lap.

thanks for posting this video..i have racehorses in my blood and just love the pharlap story and did'nt even know any of these films existed..he truely was a wonder horse as was seabiscuit.

The BS is a 1.5 mile (2.4 km) race. The KD & BS are not handicap races (colts 57.2 kg & 57 kg resp.). The MC is. Makybe Diva carried 58.5 kg over 2 miles to win her 3rd. Phar Lap won carrying 61.5 kg. Phar Lap won the 1.75 mile Agua Caliente Handicap against Americas best, setting a track-record. What makes this feat remarkable; he had a hoof injury requiring heavier bar shoes, carried 58.5 kg & raced on dirt for the 1st time. Secretariat, Phar Lap & Makybe Diva were "extra-ordinary".

Secretariats heart was unweighed but was estimated to be 20lbs to 22lbs or roughly 9 to 10 kgs. His track records in the Kentucky Derby of 1:59.5 and world dirt record in the Belmont Stakes have stood for 35 years now. In fact no horse on dirt has even come within a second of his Belmont Stakes time of 2:24 flat for the 2.5 miles EVER on ANY track. Secretariat is the most impressive flat racing horse I have ever seen. He also sired current Melbourne Cup record time holder Kingston Rule in 1990.

With all due respect, youre making comparisons against very different races and track; a 1.25 or 1.5 mile race (dirt track) for the Kentucky Derby or Belmont Stakes, to a 2 mile (turf track) for the Melbourne Cup. All 3 are champions in their own right. They also raced in completely different eras; 1930s, 1970s, 2000+. To say who is the best seems pointless. According to the National Museum of Australia, Canberra, where it is on display, Phar Laps heart actually weighed 6.2 kg.

This race was on dirt so it really showed big reds capabilities(being as all the Aussie tracks he raced on were turf tracks). And yes I know you Americans also called Secretariat big red.
