that is one part of tap dancing, if it were all about the tapping it would just be called "tapping" and you wouldn't have a need to do any sort of rythmic moving (dancing). You should know this.

I call ballroom dancing a completely visual artform. Being on the rhythm is part of the technique. However there is no dynamics in ballroom dancing, other than an occasional stomp on the floor. In tap the different parts of the shoe make different sounds at different pitches. A heel is like the bass, the tip of the toe could be the high hat, a flat foot could be a crash symbol, etc. We lose all of that in this piece. THE DYNAMICS of his taps.

Here's some WORKS CITED: Broadway and Hollywood, and tap dacer, Ted Louis Levy, would describe tap dance as two things: sound and movement. Now while it is absolutely possible to argue this point one way or ther other, a complete lack of sound = no tap dancing. Plus, just think of how much was lost. Savion is a MUSICIAN. Some have said the Coltrane of Tap. Were his taps not pleasing enough to be put on the track? Was there a board meeting of five 70 + yr. old men who took it out?

First time I caught this video I thought there was something special about it. Kenny is just great, as usual (so is John Coltrane, no argument there). But Savion is the first tap dancer I have ever really paid any attention to. I don't need to hear his tapping; I enjoy watching his creativity, along with a superb, catchy tune. If you want to be critical, pick on somebody who deserves it -- like Stomp'n Tom, for example.

I have been going to Cuba for many years, and have traveled through a fair amount of it, you do not need any more permission to travel through Cuba than going from Tallahassee to Atlanta. Can you tell me there are no hungry people in your version of paradise. I just returned. The Cuba you saw was sanitized. I saw the real Cuba where the people are starving, they are alloted a few pounds of rice a month, the streets are filled with garbage, cancer is rampant, but I do agree, the Cuban people are friendly even though they are in essence prisioners. Try heading a couple of hours out of the tourist areas, oh wait, you need government permission, not like driving from Atlanta to Tallahassee. I disagree. Fully free enterprise would be a bad thing. When Russia did it life expectancy plummeted, homelessness went up, and many people can't afford basic health care. Social democracy (i.e. mixed economy) has been proven to work the best. It's not by accident that those European nations that have adopted it have the best standards of living in the world. My dad was born into poverty, and he would still be there if capitalism had been allowed to run rampant.

You know, I agree with you except that you should allow full free enterprise, not some. As a Cuban, looking back, I really desire a strata of public and private services. Public programs are good but not for all. For example, for emergencies, sure, a public hospital with free access was good. When I hit my head and became unconscious, the option for care was there. However, when you need surgery for cancer, like my aunt, you need the best care possible which only a private hospital can bring.

I agree with everything except that Cubans are happy. Education, healthcare, that doesnt matter if you don't have liberty. I grew up there man, its so suffocating not being able to speak your mind and the fear you feel when you do. Have you actually gone to Cuba? I did! (Two months ago, to be exact.) The "fact" is that they feed the entire island (population 11m) without almost nothing imported. I had multiple Cubans serve me huge, delicious platters of fruit and proudly tell me that all of it was grown within a mile, organically no less. Cubans might be poor, but the "fact" is that the remaining 4/5 are generally happy and not itching to embrace the wasteful, consumptive lifestyle exemplified by their neighbors to north.

Obvious reason, Don Ross is like a milestone in this genre. I don't agree with people who like Andy more than Antoine, cus Antoine is SO close to Don Ross when it comes to composing.
