I assure you, 'tron flute is prominent in enough BoC tracks to be "signicantly noticable", and I have never heard it distorted by them. You can hear some processed 'tron violins on "The Campfire Headphase" but buried in the mix on one track. I'm a composer, have owned two Mellotrons though now just use the samples.I love the flute sound as well but will think twice and thrice before using it now, which sucks, IMO.

Actually I've never heard any solid mellotron flute in BoC's stuff, unless of course they distorted the crap out of it. They seem to use some kind of electric piano more than anything else. Actually the flute in the Sixtyniner might of been a mellotron but to me it vastly differs from the one Black Moth uses.

you're right, i am pretty young (19), but i knew that the mellotron was a really old instrument. i guess the difference between you and i is that you've heard it used for ages in a lot of different bands, and BMSR was the first one i heard that used it a lot. i can see how you'd be afraid of it becoming cliche though, since its such an awesome sound.

Boards of Canada had *nearly* overused it; but the Mellotron has been around for over 40 years... I assure you it has been used quite a bit! I think you can google for a UK website that has a large list of albums with 'tron. My point is with BoC and BMSR the flute sound is in danger of becoming a cliche, which is indeed bad for this style of music- it becomes a handle for haters to bash the music with. ANY sound can be overused... you must be very young ;-)

Yea, the latest version of the Sabre were rated at 5500hp. To my knowledge they were the most powerful of all piston aircraft engines. P&W were working on something very similar to the Sabre but the war ended and that was that.

id have to say the Hunter is one of the all time great combat aircraft, even by today's standards the still pack a lethal punch, and are well capable of keeping an F/A-18 Hornet honest in a dogfight, just ask the Aussie pilots who did DACT with them during theyre Singaporean service

OK, I see the video now, on page 8 of 8 searching for "Hawker Hunter". The Lebanese video features before the Indian one! But seriously, EVERY technical reference on Hunter's I've ever read mentions the Indian Air-Force service! Why such a brittle ego on this issue? As for no Australian Hunters - you must be jealous that an Aussie bought a stash of ex-Singapore Air Force Hunters. Have a look at the cockpit footage of an Aussie Hunter flying at the Qld International Airshow in 2005.

The Tempest would have performed far better if it had its radiator and air intake under the wings. The prototype with such a configuration reached at least 460 mph. That big bulky chin radiator really bogged it down, akin to that in the P-40 from the D-version onwards.

Zybot, have you read Clostermann's 'The Big Show'? In the book he describes instances of pilots straffing civillians (usually incidently) and one specific case of American pilots shooting a German under parachute. The chapter on the Rouen affair is also worth a read.

There are hundreds documented of examples of Germans shooting pilots and aircrew who were descending in their parachutes. Many more were shot on the spot when they landed on the ground. The Germans strafed civilians as well as everyone else. There are many documented cases. Check out the BBC People's War archives from WWII and you'll find dozens of eyewitness accounts of Germans strafing civilians during the Battle of Britain.

I dont deny that pilots have been killed on chutes however it was not as common as you seem to think "dozens of recorded incidents" how many pilots bailed out over europe during the war and how many allied pilots were killed in the same fasion? What exactly do a2a claims have to do with intentionally butchering civilians? As to Dresden I agree fire bombing a civillian centre is unforgivable however before you get back on your high horse do I really need to mention any of the Axis atrocities?

The strafing of civilians by american pilots is well documented, ie before and after the firebombing of Dresden! There are dozen of recorded instances of American fighter pilots shooting German pilots in their parachutes. American fighter pilot claims are grossly exagerated, many without the minimal criteria, being a witness, but always taken as correct and not checked during or post war. Even other WWII pilots believe the same, read Pierre Clostermans 'The Big Show'.

lots of pilot felt it as a test of skill, not quite as a life and death struggle like soldiers in the trenches and stuff like refusing to strafe a shot down pilot was pretty common in WWII, because pilots expected that other pilots would do the same, also, it wasnt "honourable" P.S. nailed that D9 at the start

Por lo que dicen nuestros propios generales en un documental,nuestra prioridad iba a ser defender mucho, iba a ser una larga guerra de infanteria, y que se iba a decidir en el mar. Asi que, como no teniamos demasiada capacidad ofensiva nos concentramos en hacer emplazamientos defensivos por norte y sur, que todavia funcionan. Un almirante de la armada dijo que si se daban las condiciones,se podia tomar toda la region de tierra del fuego con un contraataque que iba a costar muchas vidas.

es bastante interesante porque ellos contaban con mas aviones, pero nosotros podiamos escucharlos por medio de una base subterranea en Punta arenas de la cual monitoreabamos todos sus vuelos. Pero, nosotros a pesar de todos nuestros esfuerzos, estabamos cortos en aviones, la enmienda kennedy no nos permitia el mejor mantto de los F5 entre otros Llegamos al extremo de tener que armar aviones civiles y de transporte,con bombas de racimo y cohetes, todo lo que volara se usaria en defensa

Si, el mirage supera al hunter en velocidad, especialmente en el ascenso Sus pilotos igualmente estaban bien entrenados, pero no hay que subestimar al hunter que a velocidades menores y con un complejo control de los flaps y air brake, tenia mejor maniobrabilidad que el mirage (no tiene flaps). Era un buen rival para F5s del vecino Grupo 7, pasaban mucho tiempo en dogfight cabe recalcar que los F5 y A37s iban a estar presentes y los comandos iban a destruir ciertas pistas por ahi. saludos

Claro, no dudo que nuestro pilotos fueran buenos, pero los argentinos, no eran nada malo. A parte la ventaja del avion que era mas rapido, y veloz. Dudo mucho que un hunter le hubiera ganado, pero no es imposible, ya nuestra historia muestra como ganamos, antes sin tener las mejores armas.

Respecto a los misiles, en esos tiempos los hunter podian operar misiles Shafrir termicos de procedencia Israelita. Muy buen misil, con mas de 70 derribos. Pero como eran pocos los misiles, estabamos mas preparados para la dogfight contra mirages, en maniobras para atacar con las 4 ametralladoras del hunter, que podian destrozar a un mirage. Cabe recalcar que nuestros pilotos y mecanicos eran, y son, excelentes profesionales. saludos

Ah, don't wory i'm always typing in ahurry 2. I think you spelled his name right though! He was an ok ace, but I believe there was another Frenchy who ranked seriously high (fighting both luftwaffe, then RAF (in vichy armee de'lair), then luftwaffe again). Also he flew the D.520(?) great plane also. yeah thypoon and Tempest were great and surprisingly large! I have a 1/72 scale (on a massive stack of kits) tempest to make.

Pierre CLostermann for example (sorry if i'm writing his name wrong) He was one of the first flying the Tempest in duty, right? Pity the Tempest was developed so late..they actaully started at it right after the start of WWI, but the development went very slow and had many setbacks.. I wish that it was made much earlier...because Typhoon and Tempest is two exellent planes...they deserved more battle, so they could show theyr real strengt and crush even more then waht they did! :D
