He's right. It takes a great deal of speed and timing to correctly execute what might be called a "traditional" block or parry. The way it's shown in the video is economically sound (quicker) but against someone who might have a much greater amount of power, one might risk getting pinned by that punch, which would allow the attacker an opportunity to land another blow. If the defender can parry away from the body, he can keep himself from being put in such a position. But you could always duck:)

I don't think you can actually parry hooks, at least in no way that works (in my opinion), but yes, you can parry straights; it just takes a lot of practice to get good at it. I think the video presents a better/easier way of doing it. Again, its just my opinion based on all the boxing fights I've been in. I am no expert, just my experience

I personally like this video; they're definitely right. I don't know why "parrys" are so highly regarded; they're much harder to use if you're unskilled. First you have to decern in microsecond what hand is coming, and to which area of your body/head. Then you have to slap it almost perfectly before it makes contact. That takes a lot of practice. Blocking by raising your arm like in video is far easier, and like he said, can block straights and hooks. Why not do something simpler?

but the whole point of a haymaker. is to throw it when your opponent has block his own view with a hook or something. and you come over his hand and connect with your "haymaker"...in mma its called over the top punch if im not mistaken.

Parrying works just fine (more so in the ring), but blocking with your elbow in a bare-knuckle fight is more likely to break your opponents fist if he connects. Still, one could argue that you could avoid potential damage to your joints by parrying.

I never use haymaker because I use a different controller config...I guess the only way to use haymakers is to go with the default configuration.

But the energie finishing so fast in FN3 and in FN2 its better. But i use really rarely haymakers may in a 12 rounds fight i use just 10-15 haymakers! I played with my friend last time a exciting 12 rounds fight in Heavyweight and nobody went even once KO! :D And we was playing with 2 heavy KO punchers Marciano VS Vitaly. :D It was like a wonder that nobody went down. :)

haymakers are ok but used sparingly. i enjoy turning peoples faces into meat with all the other punches n doing body blows. i've played with 2 people i've played offline with n they kept using haymakers like 90% of the time. boring as shit. its like...is this the only way u can fight n try to win?! FN2 made it too easy to win. I look forward to FN4

I never use haymakers.And if i use it i use it rarely... I just push the basic bottoms... Cause with all that haymaker shit the fights are no longer then 3-4 rounds. Hope they gonna change it for FN Round 2. In FN 2004 the fights are longer...

that's what i'm saying. i'm not saying that this is a fake fight, but at the same time i don't want to rule it out. the more i watch, the more i consider the possibility of it being a genuine fight, because i can recall getting knocked out from a few weak jabs to the head late in a match. i was so pissed because all of my friends and family thought i pussied out and quit, but i tried to tell them that those punches hurt, even if they don't look like it. maybe this video is the same case.

call me a cunt if you want but i know how the business work. i'm not saying boxing is fixed entirely, i'm just saying that a purse can be dependent on the result and the length of a match. a lot of managers and scum bags pay thousands of dollars to boxers(basically a bonus) if and only if they comply with their purse contract. they will say stuff like, "take a punch and go down" or "try to knock him out in the 7th round." see what i mean. i think this video maybe a fake knockdown.

i know i might get thumbed down for this comment but just consider the possibility. a lot of matches in boxing are almost fixed before hand in order for matches to not exceed or be too short of a good match length for other boxers to have an appropriate amount of time to box. this is most likely a set up matched that was fixed for him to go down by the 7th round. i use to box a little bit, i don't think that was a real knockdown.
