Hi, great tutorial!!, but I am having problems with the HDR merge. It says that there is not enough dynamic range in the photos to construct a useful HDR photo. I tried to create 3 different pictures, one with shadows, one with highlights and one normal, but it is still not working. any suggestions? regards

Your original question related to power 110 -v- 220 and i chose to draw your attention toward the import tax issue. i presumed that you were already aware of the NTSC -v- PAL systems. You seem to be remarkably ill-informed for someone who's seriously considering buying equipment from overseas. I presume that you have sourced a PAL machine in the US? If that is the case, then you only issue is import tax and a UK plug.

I may be mistaken but if I recall...it is a bit more complicated than that (regarding the plug/voltage system). The US uses the NTSC format and if I am not mistaken, overseas uses the PAL format...which this is very important when purchasing cameras and such. If this is not a factor, then I apologize...I just recall buying a Canon XL1 a few years ago, and NOT being able to use it because it was PAL format...and had to get rid of it and grab a NTSC format cam...

you wont be able to calculate an exact figure to nearest penny because the amount of VAT payable will be calculated according to the US Dollar / UK � exchange rate prevailing on the day that the item arrives here in the UK, but you will be able to get a close figure. sure there are some real bargains in the US, but you need to consider that you will, in all likelihood, get stung for our sales tax too. Consider that when you're bargain hunting abroad. Good Luck.

so, you pay for the item when you buy it from the USA, then when it arrived here our customs people calculate the VAT amount based on the customs declaration value, and then send you a bill - usually about 14 days later. if you don't pay the bill, you will get a customs and excise officer knocking on your door and they have more power than the police. What you need to do is convert the US dollar price into �UK, then add 17.5%. That will give you the total amount you will end up paying. Clear?

yes you are charged VAT in a shop here in the UK, or from a British website etc. but when you buy an item from abroad you are exempt from paying sales tax in that country, because the item is being exported, in this case, to the UK. Understand? In order for the company in the USA to not pay their local sales tax, the item must carry a customs declaration showing its value, when it leaves the country. when it gets here, OUR customs people add our rate of sales tax (VAT, 17.5%) to the item.

Of course it will work. All the electronics are the same voltage anywhere in the world. all you need to do when you get it is either buy a US/Continental power adapter, or chop the plug off and use one of weird UK 3 pin plugs. That is the least of your worries though. the camera will have a customs declaration form attached stating it value in US dollars. you will certainly get a bill from our customs and excise people asking for the VAT. Are you sure you want to buy from the US?

Hi Kezamizogabi, You will have no power problems at all. Maybe you have to buy a power-plug adapter, that's it. But, more important will be your choise on the PAL system or the NTSC system. Europe is using the PAL system but I think Ireland doesn't belong to Europe (money wise, what a shame, LOL), maybe you have your own left driving video system. Anyway the PAL system cost more in the US and you have to place an "E" after the type code. so; HDSR-SR12E

Wow, thats amazing. The transormation is a massive leap. The final image looks like something out of a fairy tale, from another world. From now on I'm auto-bracketing on my 400D with 17-55IS f/2.8 lens. Its a shame that our own eyes don't see HDR in real-time out there :(

I have found a widescreen 720x480 project saved as a 720x480 MP4 with just normal quality settings seems to work pretty good for youtube. You could do a test render and upload it to be sure. The video above was rendered using the standard youtube settings of vegas 9. I have just started putting these on DVD and I am still trying to find the best settings myself.

you can get sony vegas 7 and 9 for free, just youtube it... 8 is the only on that has problems... the key gen is all messed up... but i prefer vegas 7 over 9... unless you have a blueray player... but these days who has one yet? maybe in another year or so... people will begin the conversion to blueray disks.... but great video... i should be getting mine in the mail in about the next three hours... i'll upload something to show.... i'm in film school so i bought it for that reason....

Based on my video or jetdaisukes video? :) Anyway, you can import any video format into Vegas Pro 8 and render (convert, or how ever you want to call it) it into any other format. Options are limitless really. I rendered my video according to this guys settings - watch?v=GxH2G6NIkys It came out well. (Check my video if you haven't already :) Hope that helps

Thank you, yes I am still looking for the answer lol! I tried the software that sony comes with Motion Browser I think, but it converts only when the files are on the camera. I think the blurring stability is important in the HD camcorder. Vertical style is bad blurring stability. Horizontal type is better than it. But I'm a video blogger. Most important thing is mobility than stability. So I choose the TG1.

Auto Bracketing doesn't work in M(anual) exposure mode, only in A(perture Priority mode), S(hutter Speed Priority mode), and P(rogrammable Exposure mode). Plus bracketing won't work if you have Multiple Exposure enabled in M mode too, either.

Why not just use multiple exposure with the bracketing function? If I recall correctly, the multiple exposure will expose the number of frames set by the bracket function. Use aperture priority and -3/+3 bracketing and wouldn't that simplify it? Or maybe I'm confusing the interval shooting mode that does the bracketing ... I think I'm going to have to experiment with this :).

Nighttime HDR shots never come out very good from what I've experienced (too dark and the background (sky) changes throughout the series of exposures) but we never know, you can try -2 / +2 and see how the results pop out.

If you have a really dark bit that you want to show up on the final image, you would have to go up to +2 or in extreme cases close to +5. Because EV Stop tells you to adjust the shutter speed until the meter reads "0". I suggest you do that and practice. You will understand why we use EV Compensation in manual mode. EV Compensation automatically adjust the aperture in S mode and shutter speed in A mode, but not in M mode.

No problem, mate. That's the whole reason why I find HDR programs (like Photomatix) is completely unnecessary and gives you pretty scary fake results (too contrasty, weird colors, and dull). This tutorial saves you $100. :)

I am just puzzled by one thing: You said to shoot in manual mode. But you also said to use exposure compensation. It doesn't sounds right because in manual mode the exposure compensation doesn't work. Test it, go on manual mode, shoot at correct exposure, then use the exposure comp button and shoot at -5 or +5, check the images, you won't see any differences in exposure.

hi btw i was wondering how do we check that everything is alright and take when we have our everything set correctly ... my camera doesnt come with live view function im not very sure about the picture quality but i do use self timer as i dun have any 3rd party timer ...my picture isnt as bright as compared to yours... will kit lens 18-55mm works same as ur lens?

Auto Bracketing doesn't work when you are in the Multiple Exposure progress. The camera is on the tripod, you can touch the camera while the Multiple Exposure progress, not possible if your camera is placed on small pebbles or sand.

Yea I'm picky about my camcorders. I refused to buy one for years because of how bad they do in low light. This one the SR11 and 12 do very well in low light. Easily beating the old TRV digital 8 cameras from the late 90s. They see about the same as the old TVRs (in low light), only FAR less grain in the picture. This is the first HD consumer camcorder that I would actually give a thumbs up to. Just make sure you get exactly the right computer to edit with.
