And if Bush were indeed on this panel, attempting to ask questions at all, he would probably turn it into some light-hearted joke-a-thon, much like McCain toys with the idea of war with Iran. This is serious business and it needs to be addressed like it is. Obama points out the negativity in this foreign campaign, which too many Americans are incapable of swallowing their pride and doing so as well. He's right on so many fronts.

It's called civilian control of the military my friend, and is one of the most fundamental checks and balances we have to keep the military in line with the needs and values of the population. Also, Obama's questions were respectful and incisive, and seem to be an intelligent articulation of the views of his constituents. Can you see Bush asking Petraeus those kinds of questions in that manner? Yes, it is real leadership my friend.

Japan bombed Pearl Harbor because Roosevelt moved the US Navy Pacific Fleet from San Diego to Hawaii. The Japanese saw this as a provocation. Also US Navy warships were guarding supply ships bound for Britain making them targets for German submarines. Roosevelt said "I will not send your boys to fight in foreign wars." FDR also sold a fleet of WWI destroyers to the British for US Naval bases in the Caribbean Sea.

Yankhadenoough does not know history. Yes they hung Nazis at Nuremberg, but we cooperated with Josef Stalin who was as bad, if not worse than Hitler. The Soviets committed atrocities just like the Germans in WWII, but since the USSR was on the winning side there were no war crimes tribunals for the Red Army and NKVD, and the Russians were made to look virtuous. Example, Soviet prisoners who escaped from the Germans in Stalingrad were shot by their own people as German spies.

i appreciate your concern, though i do know my history and i know what you are talking about. but i do not see why a lack of investigation concerning people who committed a wrong decades ago and are long dead should influence a wrong that happened in recent years and has the potential to be investigated.this is the danger with ignoring what bush (and i agree, FDR,LBJ,and truman) has done; it suggests to future presidents that they are above morality and the law.

Maybe, but if you knew your history you would see that FDR engaged in numerous acts against Germany and Japan that would today be called provocative, and FDR said "I will not send your sons to fight in foreign wars." Truman, as I mentioned OKed using the Atomic Bomb on Japan. Also, the USSR was not present when the UN voted to aid South Korea, and it was known that McArthur clearly claimed China would not intervene in Korea.
