i actually like the live reality version much better: the guitars and instruments are just so much more pronounced. the live version is more ethereal, stunning. rather than being "tired" (which may be justified because the man did a 2+ hour performance), it's like he's taking on the emotions of the song: regret, loss, bereavement. i love how he's done this more often later in his career: be complete vessel to each song.

Reminds of Old English Folk songs pertaining to True Thomas the Rhymer. He's a folklore figure, one of the last great (pagan?) bards or skalds of the UK ~600 years ago. He meets a goddess, "The Queen of Heaven!", She says "That's not my name, I'm the Queen of Elfland." He goes to Elfhome with her, serves her, must swear to hold his tongue for 7 years. I honestly tried to tell you, but Firefox crashed, then my operating-system seized up and I had to reboot! Suffice it to say that thurses are not capable of understanding what Odhin said, and that is why Vafthrudnir the giant said "No one knows..." and was thus outed as a thurse. Perhaps Wyrd will allow me to say, why don't you ask Odhin and Baldr yourself, as I did. (Now with any luck, my system will not seize up again!) Glad Yule! Dan

This "Statement of Beliefs" reflects a year+ worth of negotiation between the varied founding members of the Freehold, who included Theodish, Folkish, Asatru Heathen as well as Norse Wiccans, if you can believe it. To have sat all those different sorts of Heathen down at one table and hammered out something we could all agree on is unprecedented in North American Heathenism as far as we know. In the beginning, all could vote, but then *all* voted to give the vote only to the Sworn Heathens.

How it could've come to that (where religious ideologies get so distorted they no longer cause followers to act in support of life - and in fact may only worsen the disconnect between man, nature and the divine) is the million krona question, seems to me. Knowing that answer, we could then name the curse, and thus put it to final rest. Methinks Loki may've had something to do with that. But I've heard what Odhin whispered in the ear of his son upon Baldr's Pyre, so I fear not. God Jul!

These beliefs sound so intrinsically healthy and conducive to human freedom and well being, and I say that with all sincerity. This is a far cry from what I've seen out of most mainstream religions.
