I wonder if anyone else noticed that the way they play the instruments does not always match the sound, especially at the organ/keyboard solo. Same for the singing, especially in the case of "Sunrise" from this concert. If you're a musician, you spot these a lot more easily. Bands often re-sing, re-play, remix and remaster some parts for the DVD release, and sometimes it's noticeable, like here. Nevertheless, Uriah Heep is fantastic and I hope they'll be playing for decades!

I sincerely hope that you don't mind me adding my twenty cents worth, I'm a musician myself, even though I'm predominantly a Guitar player, but I'm also a Bass player and a keyboard player as well. I'd been playing Guitar and Bass for well over 40 years and Keyboards for well over 20, and basically what you have here especially today, are people who want to learn how to be Eddie Van Halen in 5 easy lessons, I'm sorry it doesn't work like that, even though I'm in my mid 50's I'm still learning.

What's all this about who's the best between David Byron and Bernie Shaw. They're both bloody brilliant singers. I used to see Bernie in 1980 in the Golden Lion in Fulham when he was in 'Paris' (later became Grand Prix) - they were INCREDIBLE. He was such a great frontman even then and I'm so glad he's found regular work ever since with Praying Mantis and for the last twenty one years - Uriah Heep. There is one thing that has to be said about this video though - where does Phil get his shirts?!

It's allmost "painful" to listen to this, one among many, Uriah Heep masterpiece... I remember when it came out. I was 15 years old and was blown away, like so many others, by their warm, dreamy, massively heavy rock songs, owerflowing with energy. These guys, with Davids sensual and beautiful voice, knew how to create "landscapes' of sound to explore.. They took us for a ride into their dreamscapes, of pure magic... and the lyrics.. AWESOME!!! I've got the same feeling as DAauge37. If you check out "Gypsy" from this concert you can see, that the way they play the instruments does not always match the sound. Same for the singing. If you're a musician, you spot these a lot more easily. Bands often re-sing, re-play, remix and remaster some parts for the DVD release, and sometimes it's noticeable, like here. Nevertheless, Uriah Heep is fantastic and I hope they'll be playing for decades!

It's criminal that this band isnt as well known as some of its peers from the same era. They are simply fantastic. However, although I dont like or listen to rap, Snoop Dogg is a giant in the genre and has been at it for well over 20 years right now...so I'm pretty sure he will be known as such for a very long time. I've heard SO much about Captain Beyond, but never got the chance to hear them (radio hardly ever plays them). The names alone make them sound like a "Supergroup" to end all "supergroups". Both them and Armageddon have two of my favorite British singers from the 60s: Keith Relf and Rod Evans. Unfortunately, both of their fates were in the hands of the likes of Page and Blackmore, who wanted sexier-looking frontmen, like Plant and Gillan, with higher vocal ranges.

Lee Dorman was a great bass player for Iron Buterfly, and even better in CAPTAIN BEYOND!That incredible band also featured Rhino(from Iron Butterfly) on guitar, Rod Evans (from Deep Purple) on vocals and Bobby Caldwell (from The Edgar Winter Group)on drums. Like Uriah Heep, it's excellent early 70s guitar driven fantasy rock. HIGHLY RECCOMENDED! totally...the 70s Nazareth for exemple is really close stylistically to deep purple...they were friends and they toured together at that time... and there s connection between every hard rock band of that time and even to 70s pop rock sometimes... a band like Manfred Mann s Earth Band is really close 2 hard rock at the beg. of the 70s...they were influenced by Purple (&Floyd)on some songs...that s a big web... Even in this Uriah Heep song the guitar sound reminds me 2 z (superbe) Pink Fairies!

I sang this song with a band I was in after high school circa 1974 and I'll never forget the thrill I had the first time I heard the original version with David Byron, and for me it will always be the best one.I also played the grooves out of the Uriah Heep Live album, & never understood how this band was always overlooked by rock radio & critics of classic rock. RIP David, you were ahead of your time and remain an icon for many early Heep fans, deserving a far better fate than you had.

You are right it's not Byron, it's a Canadian guy named Bernie Shaw whose been doing vocals for years. He can reach the notes and does as good a job as you could get doing the early numbers. He's not a bad chef either. They're at the Astoria, Charing Cross london on Sunday 23rd Nov. If anyone who reads this is going just say martin sent me.

A few years back, I heard a really haunting song called "Come away Melinda". It was sung by a girl called Barry St. John and it just scraped into the top 50 (in Britain) at the end of 1965. She had a really beautiful, plaintive voice and I seem to remember there being a chorus in it sung by children. It didn't sound anything like Uriah Heep's - as good as their version is - I presume it was the same song. Perhaps someone could track it down to compare and contrast!

Yeah! that would be great :) but I don't think neither the music, nor the vibe from the 60's and 70's, will ever return. It was like entering a new dimension. It's simply not possible to go back. It will only be "old wine on new bottles". It was a "big bang" in music and a quantum leap in consciousness, pure and simple. However, something will happen, both in music and in concousness, and some of the wisdom found in the 60/70's, will be rediscovered.. Something is boiling underneath ;)
