I truly love Ikiru and Kurosawa but I have to say, this is a bad trailer. Its not as bad as "The Seventh Seal" trailer but damn. Anyway amazing movie, just bought it as a christmas gift to two of my uncles, everyone really needs to see Ikiru.

Shouldn't call someone an idiot because they were touched by The Lord of the Rings and you weren't. LOTR is full of character development, friendships, and fighting for what you love. Yes, it's in a fantasy world but they still deal with the same emotional turmiol as us. Sorry to rabble, but it was hard to see someone group LOTR and soap operas together. I'm all about rooting against what's popular, but there's a reason why Tolkein's legacy lives on, and maybe Peter Jackson's will as well

People tell me to have been touched by soap operas or the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I say nothing and think to myself: what idiots. An aspect of Ikiru you might also consider is, that as well in technical aspects as lighting, music, camera and production design it does not lag behind the directing and acting. It is still hard for me to believe, but the greatness of art does in general not correspond to how much people it will attract. Well, its ars gratia artis then.

We can do a list of great touching films/moments, in which 'd add: It's a Wonderful Life, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Ikiru, Elephant Man, One flew over the cuckoo's nest, Shawshank, Midnight Cowboy, an many more to come! Thank you for your contribution, you've got an excellent taste for movies! And, before i forget, Ikiru is one of the GREATEST movies EVER! Kurosawa is my favorite director, along with Capra, of course, and Lynch.

My list got outdated pretty fast: "It's a wonderful life" went to #1, the first movie to make me cry :) . Mr Smith is also an utter masterpiece, like all other Capra's i've seen! Anyway, i'd added also Elephant Man and Shawshank Redemption.

I recently purchased the Criterion DVD of "Ikiru" and needless to say, it may be the most touching and beautiful film I have ever seen. I have yet to cry during a film, but this turned me into a sniveling stuffed thing. The beginning when he is remembering his son as a child just destroys me... And the swingset scene ... no ... I cry now ...

I have only seen Rashomon, Kagemusha, and High and Low. I own Dreams and Seven Samurai ... but I somehow overlooked such a powerful film. I can't find this though. This looks like a truly beautiful film.
