I like both Jay chow n JJ.. they both have their own style,in their musics and appeareance.. sumtimes,jay chow match the chinese-traditional music with his pop-rap style in his song "fa ru xue" or "huo yuan jia", then, JJ make a simple music with a little beat.. and it's very nice like "always online" in his album sixology. at last, i wanna say, both of them r great musician!!!! ^ ^

The feeling of longing is as universal as it gets. We've all been there but to often we let our day to day get it in the way. I think your mostly right except the few that are in good Jazz Bands or live just down the street from 18th and vine in Kansas City like me. I was lucky enough to be introduced to J.J., Ellington, Bird and Gillespie at the Jazz Museum by my band director. Unluckily a lot of people don't get that.

'Tommy potter, one of the most unsung heroes of the jazz double bass!' Especially as at about 3:28 he has to be well on the ball. McGhee seems to switch from blues in F to Db and goes up a semi-tone each round! I really don't think Potter was ready for that. Good ears!!!

I practice jazz all the time and do barely any reading. Jazz solos improvised remember, so there is no sheet music. The only sheet music that exists is a lead sheet which gives you the head (main melody) and chord symbols. The solo, he made up on the spot.. HOWEVER, i have good news for you. Many professionals and students transcribe other people's solos so they can learn how to play better, though I wouldn't know where to find it. If you really want to learn it you should transcribe it yourself..

You are comparing apples and oranges! There is more to appreciate out of J.J. as far as musical talent and versatility. From improvisation, to innovation, Mr. Johnson was the complete package. You are focusing on technique and tone. There are a lot of other aspects of a trombonist that J.J. offered the music world. Joe Alessi is an outstanding trombonist but will never surpass Jay Jay's fame.
