Deserve what? I was just stating facts. He's a different player in his old age. And it was still weird to watch him play like someone different irregardless of the reasons. It's really like watching a different player because he's weaker than he used to be.

McCoy has been very ill for years. It's not just age contributing to how he plays today. People respond differently to age and stress from touring. He still has that expressive touch and uses others in the band to express dexterous solos. Its really sad reading comments like this from people you would expect more respect for McCoy from, being that they grew up listening to him. If all his fans thought the same, no one would go to his concerts. He's such a humble man and doesnt deserve that.

I saw him play here in Vancouver a few weeks ago. He really isn't the same player in his old age. I grew up with the McCoy that plays where you'd expect the piano to die at the end. It's weird though, because pianists don't tend to slow down that much when it comes to playing when they get old e.g. Rubensteing, Peterson, Horowitz, Borge... It's was a really weird experience to watch him play so weak.

why? he contributed a lot to jazz as is...I don't think playing other styles detracted from his jazz; so ,who cares? the only other reason I can think of that you'd say that is because you dont believe his other work is of any real musical substance...and, although, some of his tunes aren't something I'd listen to reguraly (breezin)...its still good music...any type of music is hard to play, if you want to play it well

There is no one better nor has there been than George and McCoy. Some as good but different, but not better. Fantastic drummer! I don't know why some of you boys don't care for him but the kind of drumming I like improving over. One thing about George's pop playing is that it brought jazz to the masses. I see nothing wrong with that. Most of the standards us jazz players like to play over were once pop greats. Great chords and melodies in those older tunes

First time I hear Mr Benson playing this in his album "Tenderly". He plays mainstream jazz standard songs with his own style. His fast playing, sounds and remarkable Mixolydian scale (he's master at that!) is so brilliant!! Anyway in my favorite video list there's a video about Mr Benson come into friend's house and sings. i have to say, ribot is probably my favorite guitar player involved, but he just doesn't work on this record. with the exception of the improvised duets, he's trying to hard to fit in (which is understandable, considering who he's playing with). overall, i'd say the record sounds like what it is; a jam session with some of the best players around.

I asked him autograph the album from which this song comes, "Time For Tyner"; '68 on Blue Note, recorded live at a Coltrane Tribute concert in 'Trane's home state of NC. No, he would play to impress. Check out Mingus at Carnegie. George Adams plays some wild shit and then Rahsaan takes Georges style and just blows it up! Music can be very competetive and since Rahsaan never got his due he had little problem in ramming his genius into your eyes and ears.

Not Coltrane..Kirk..Pure Roland Kirk which would be classified as Post-Bop Free Jazz as in Ornette Coleman,Pharoh Sanders,and not many horn players had the breathing capacity that Roland had..Not to mention playing two and three horns at the same time..Also John Coltrane mentored under Charlie Parker..Other great horns back in those years were Sonny Stitt,Hank Mobley,Dexter Gordon,Ernie Watts,and on and on and on..Kirk was unique for sure..A One On!
