Yes, Nomad really did kill Scotty. But when Kirk got upset about it, Nomad offered to "repair the unit" for him. Spock and McCoy showed Nomad all their computer files on human anatomy and physiology, then took Nomad to Sickbay where he revived Scotty. He couldn't repair the damage he did to Uhura though so they had to re-educate her. You really should rent this episode; it's one of the best!

I has such a crush on her when I was a kid in the 70's. And this is from a white guy in Louisiana! I think what I loved about her was that her being black or a woman was never an issue in Star Trek in the 60's. She was just Lt. Uhura, communications officer of the USS Enterprise. And in the 60's that was something else. Another example of Roddenberry being decades ahead of his time.

Of course it's how he would have been... That was actually a respectful comment coming from Lincoln's time. It used to be that "negro" was the respectful way to describe a person of African desent, long ago, although that has sense changed.
