Uli's playing always makes me smile, it's so effortless looking. Amazing. Eddie Vanhalen (and all the guys who are over the top on stage, who can really play also) is (are) stunning also, but it's nice to see the calm approach with such stunning techique. Love this song. yo dude! i love the matthias jabs era, too. but even his era had some less desirable songs. but to say that the other song from the ULI era are shit is out of pocket. ULI is the best. Jabs style is nowhere close to as unique as ULI. If you play guitar, you really need to go back for some lessons. Then maybe you'll understand , why.

Yea, AXE, I think it's a matter of taste. Uli is unquestionably the better guitar player technically (I personally thinjk he's better than his unofficial mentor, Hendrix), but the Scorps became commercially succesful with Matthias (and his great guitar fills). With Uli out of the band, Rudolph became the main writer, and he obviously has a more commercial bent. Like I said, both eras were excellent, just different.

I remember when I was 14 I had an old tape with this song. It only had the about 3/4 of the song recorded. My family was so poor I couldn't afford to go buy it. I listened to it all the time. Even at that age (back in something like 1991) this was old stuff. Most people hadn't even heard of it. I loved though! ahh the old days.. (sigh) I actually don't miss it.

I saw Uli jamming 3 days ago with Vernon Reid, Gilby Clarke and Alex Skolnick and all night he had a completely serene look on his face, the only way I can describe it is a look of total freedom!! I don't care what anybody says" Beyond the Astral Skies" is a strange but wonderfully unique piece of work. His tone and technique are untouchable and he plays with feeling. For all you Uli haters, check out "Yellow Raven" or "In Your Park" from "Virgin Killer". Uli is the best case closed!!

yeah, when Uli was with the Scorpions it could really help you to get over KM's often strenuous vocals. I've actually seen him/them play in small school aulas (or rather entrance corridors...) in the early 70s and to me it was he closest thing to Hendrix you could get to see and hear at that time in Germany. Uli was absolutely fantastic then and though he still is a brillant guitarist I could never quite follow him into those rather bombastic and/or esoteric realms later on. my fault maybe...

He was such a great part of the Scorpions. He filled the gap of lead guitarist perfectly. He added that Hendrix twist that Mathias Jabs could never fill. His Electric Sun era is not my favourite though, he got way too etherical. The scorp boys reined that in perfectly. Ah some times can never return, the Wacken show wasn't the smash I expected from it....

I was at the show on this night and this was certainly one of the highlights. The whole show was amazing. The only bummer for me was that Don Dokken never showed up as scheduled. Uli never mentioned anything about why he was not there. The show lasted 4 hours.
